Invisalign is a system that uses clear, plastic aligners to straighten teeth instead of conventional metal braces. A digital scan and intraoral photographs are taken at an imaging center. This creates a digital model that the dentist is able to manipulate on the computer to sequence the Invisalign treatment. The aligners are then fabricated in the Invisalign lab and sent to the dentist. The dentist will explain to the patient how to wear and care for the aligners. In most cases, the patient will be changing to a new aligner every 10-14 days. Invisalign is a great option for cases that have mild to moderate spacing or crowding. If a patient had braces as a teen and didn't wear their retainers, they might have noticed some shifting over time. Invisalign can help restore their smile to its former alignment. The most important thing to remember to have a successful Invisalign case is to WEAR THE ALIGNERS! Not everyone is a good candidate for Invisalign. For complicated bites or large movements, your dentist may refer you to a braces specialist, called an orthodontist.
