Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide (N2O), usually referred to as "laughing gas", is commonly used in the dental office for inhalation sedation. N2O is a colorless, odorless gas that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a nose piece. As the patient breathes deeply through their nose, they become relaxed, and their anxiety lessens. Nitrous oxide is a very safe and effective form of sedation. It takes effect quickly (~15 minutes), and after the procedure is over, the patient is administered 100% oxygen for ~5 minutes, which removes all of the nitrous oxide from the body. The great thing about nitrous oxide sedation is that the patient is able to drive home, return to work or resume any daily activities!
