At Aaron Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, our dentists consider regular oral cancer screenings the standard of care. The dentist will evaluate the hard tissue (bone and teeth) and the soft tissue (cheeks, gums, tongue) of your head and neck for abnormalities or problems. This can include palpation under the chin, stretching of the cheeks and pushing the tongue to either side. The screening is completed with the Oral ID, which utilizes fluorescence technology to aid the dentist in identifying potential pre-cancerous or cancerous cells. If your dentist does find an oral lesion suspicious, they will direct you on how to proceed and will likely recommend a biopsy of the area. Early identification of oral cancer is extremely important. Early diagnosis means early treatment, allowing for the most favorable outcome!
